EMDR Therapy

EMDR Therapy

There is More Wisdom in Your Body Than the Deepest Philosophy

EMDR Therapy (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), is a highly affective therapeutic modality for unblocking stuck memories that inhibit healing and growth. Often, our traumas are rooted in early childhood relationships that effect how we relate to ourselves and others. These attachment wounds result in core negative self beliefs, such as feeling unloveable, unsafe or not good enough to name a few.

How is AF-EMDR different from EMDR?

In addition to using the many benefits to traditional EMDR, Attachment-focused EMDR emphasizes a reparative therapeutic relationship. Utilizing such tools as resourcing (to strengthen and repair childhood attachment wounds), EMDR to process traumas, and traditional talk therapy to help integrate the information gained from EMDR.

How does EMDR work?

EMDR is an 8 phase protocol that gets to the root of our core negative self-beliefs. EMDR bypasses our once adaptive defenses of rationalization and denial. This allows the client to identify, process, and heal the core wounds that are getting in the way of living a joyful, self-fulfilled life. Bilateral stimulation, most commonly done through the use of gentle vibrating tappers held in each hand, is the hallmark of EMDR. It is believed that bilateral stimulation assists clients in the processing of painful or traumatizing memories.

EMDR is highly effective in the treatment of:

  • Depression
  • Anxiety
  • Trauma
  • Relational (attachment) wounds
  • Stress
  • Sleep issues
